Estimates of 1,000 Libyans dead ‘credible’ - Frattini

Italian Foreign Minister Franco Frattini has been reported as saying that estimates of 1,000 dead in Libya’s ongoing violent unrest are “credible”, according to Reuters.

It has so far been unclear as to the true body count that has resulted from the violent clashes that took place, especially as night descends over the major hubs overwhelmed by protests and clashes such as Tripoli.

There were also reports of military and mercenary units clearing the streets from corpses of protestors to cloud the true picture of those that perished in the rapidly-destabilising Arab country.

Artillery and jet fighters, as well as foot assets, have reportedly opened fire on crowds in a bit to quell the unrest, while groups of mercenaries have been reportedly sighted sporadically attacking anyone they come across in a bid to discourage protesters from gathering.
