Taking a punch for a good cause
On Friday 20th August, I & J Amateur Boxing Club of Mosta held a boxing event for charity at the Mosta Football Ground.
The aim of this event was to raise funds for a non-profit organisation "Amputees for amputees".
Amy Zahra, the President of the organisation was on site to address the public and introduce the organisation which has been operational for less than one year. Also present were Mosta mayor Mr Paul Chetcuti Caruana who praised the idea of helping out others through sport, and Architect Chris Grech, President of I & J Amateur Boxing Club, who said that this was not the first fundraiser for charity organised by I & J, and neither the last.
The approximately 300 people who were present for this event were served with barbecued meat and chilled drinks while watching the boxing bouts. At the end of the show, €1,700 in cash, the sum raised during the evening, were presented to Amy Zahra by Iman Galea, head coach at I & J Amateur Boxing Club.
Amy thanked all the boxers and staff at I & J, and said this was by far the largest donation ever to Amputees for Amputees. Special thanks goes to all sponsors for this event, Vassallo Joiners, Vassallo Builders, Cellofonic and Flicks DVD both of Mosta and Ramla Bay Hotel, the Blackburn family as well as to all the boxers who devoted their free time to set up the venue.
