Marsa win against first touring team
On Saturday the Marsa C.C played their first game against a touring side. The team was the crew from the yacht M/Y Aviva.
The Marsa team won the toss and elected to bat first. After the seventh over the home team was struggling having lost the wickets of David Borg, Malcolm Crabbe ,Justin Brooke and Robert Krishna for nineteen runs between them.
The four wickets were shared between Malin and Shiva. John Grima became the rock of the innings being very steady and ended up top scoring for the home team with forty three runs. He was well aided in the come back by Tony Azzopardi (fourteen runs), Ronnie Sacco (six runs) , Sunny Krishna (eight runs ) and swash buckling innings of nineteen runs from eighteen balls from Derek Ali which included a six. Aided with twenty five extras the Marsa team totalled 134 runs from their allotted overs. Prasad Abeysinghe was the main wicket taker with three while Chandika took one.
The home team needed to bowl well to defend the low total and the opening bowlers of Tony Azzopardi and Dave Borg gave the home team a great start taking three wickets between them. Sumair Khan took two wickets and importantly the wicket of Prasad Abeysinghe who top scored for his team with nineteen runs.
Malcolm Crabbe bowled a good three over spell in which he bowled two maidens. Adam Caruana, Robert Krishna,Ronnie Sacco and Justin Brooke all took a wicket each. Sumair Khan also took a great catch diving forward. For the visitors Tim De Goldi scored eleven runs and Aldon Beukman remained thirteen runs not out after looking to take the game to the home side, as wickets kept on tumbling at the other end. The M/Y Aviva totalled 104 runs. The Marsa team win by thirty runs.
A second game is scheduled in a fortnight. Next Saturday the fifth game of the Forty over Winter League will be played between Melita Betfair C.C and Krishna C.C. In the morning the Sunoco Cricket academy/nursery will be from 9:00am till 10:30am.
