Marsa win series and Women’s league
Its been a very busy week for cricket with two games against returning touring team Leo C.C, the men’s and women’s Summer leagues coming to an end.
Leo C.C who were on their second tour to Malta were looking to better their previous years series draw of one each. On Tuesday the home side batted first and made a reasonable score of 137 runs from their twenty overs. Puneet Gupta top scored with thirty nine runs, Malcolm Crabbe made twenty five runs and Vinod Ramakrishna made twenty six runs. For Leo Mitun was the pick of the bowlers taking three wickets, while Santosh took two, Amit and Sandeep a wicket each.
The Visitors reply was steady but finally the overs ran out and could only make 118 runs. Bhavesh was the top scorer with twenty nine runs, Avnesh twenty eight runs Amit Chauhan fourteen runs and Sachin Patel thirteen runs. For the Marsa team Puneet Gupta, Gordon Hewitt and Joy Ghoseroy took two wickets each while Malcolm Crabbe and Sam Aquilina took a wicket each.
In the Thursday game Leo C.C batted first and scored 127 runs. Again Bhavresh proved to be the better batsmen with thirty eight runs. Mitun made twenty one runs and Krishan made nineteen. Andy Naudi was the pick of the bowlers taking four wickets, Waseem Abbas and Malcolm Crabbe taking two wickets each and Ewan Prezens taking one. Some great batting from Bikram Arora (fifty runs) and Haroon Majeed (thirty runs) made the run chase very easy with the home side reaching their target in the eighteenth over. Sam Aquilina batted well for twenty four runs and Matt McKeogh ten runs. Santosh was the only wicket taker for the visitors. Marsa win the series two nil.
The Summer league came to an interesting end with Melita forfeiting their game against Krishna which left the final standings as follows; Marsa CC first, Krishna C.C second, Melita C.C third and Overseas C.C. A friendly game was played.
On Sunday the women's Summer league continued where Overseas C.C needed a win to push for a play off game against Marsa C.C.
The Marsa team batted first and totalled 134 runs, most of which were extras. Talitha Van Colen top scored with seventeen runs,Rachael Bezzina fourteen and Taryn Butler eight. For Overseas Amy Caruana and Sara Ghoseroy took a wicket each. At the halfway mark Overseas were looking steady to win the game, The Marsa bowlers tightened up and the Overseas ended on 117 runs, again extras were a plenty, Amy Caruana top scored with eleven runs, Sara Ghoseroy made eight runs and Helen Caruan seven. For Marsa Taryn Butler,Rachael Bezzina u Talitha Van Colen all took a wicket. The Marsa team win their first Summer league.
Next Saturday a friendly game between the Shark's and Panthers will take place.
