Cricket: Dave Borg saves the day
On Saturday the Sharks and Panther teams played in a thirty over game. Overall it was a low scoring affair with plenty of extras which cost one of the sides the close game.
The Panthers elected to bat first and sent in Waseem Abbas who faced eleven balls before being trapped lbw and only managed one run. His partner Ranjit Gokarn managed to stay in longer, twenty one balls and made seven runs. Abhishek Agrawal bating for his first time at the Marsa pitch stayed in for forty two balls and made twenty runs.
Haroon Majeed hade a quiet day by his standard and only scored six runs, even though his first ball went racing away to the boundary. John Prior top scored for the Panthers with twenty nine runs, took forty seven balls, main highlight was hitting a big six. Sarfraz Ali made sixteen runs not out, Paul Bradley three runs, Eric Krishna one run and Kevin Krishna eight runs not out. The Sharks gave away twenty extras which gave the Panthers a total of 111 runs.
For the Sharks Edward Manning and Joy Ghoseroy took two wickets each, the youngest player on the field Luke Bradley took one wicket, Dean Arnold took his first wicket, John Rusher and Ian Pendelbury took a wicket each.
The Sharks did not think much of the total and were pretty relaxed about making the runs. Dave Borg opened the innings and played till the end making a fine thirty nine runs not out.
His opening partner Joy Ghoseroy was bowled after making ten runs. Borg then must have been wondering what was going on when the next three batsmen were dismisd for three runs between them. Dean Arnold came in and steadied the ship with eighteen runs.
Then again Borg's head went wondering again when the swash buckling Ian Pendelbury was out for one run, Tony Slater five runs and Luke Bradley six runs. Edward Manning was cool under the circumstances and made nine runs to aid Borg in winning the game.
The Panthers gave away twenty one extras. For the Panthers, Matthew Gillard, Rangit Gokarn and John Prior took two wickets each while Kevin Krishna took one.
Next Saturday the Sharks and Panthers meet again.
