New City prove too strong
On Sunday the third and deciding game of the series between Marsa C.C and newcomers New City C.C was played.
The home team won the toss and elected to bat first, and bat they did recording one of their highest scores against a touring team in a t20 game that of 174 runs. Even more impressive was that they did not lose any wickets, Malcolm Crabbe retired after making fifty one runs, Sam Aquilina made his maiden fifty runs and also retired. Andy Naudi made forty four runs from twenty four balls faced. The home team were delighted with such a score.
Up till the fifteenth over the visitors had only ninety three runs with only Vinod Tailor (twenty four runs) and Ashish Ratia (twelve runs) making any impact. The home side were relatively relaxed. In came Mihir Choksi and changed the course of the game smashing five fours and five sixes to all parts of the ground in a knock that will not be forgotten, ending e\with sixty six runs not out he led his team to victory with two balls to spare. Dhruv Pankhania chipped in with twenty runs.
The Marsa team were quite stunned since they only needed to take two wickets to win. Derek Ali bowled very well early taking two wickets for six runs in his opening spell of four overs. Andy Naudi also took two wickets while Niraj Khanna, Zubair Raja and Matthew Gillard took a wicket each. New City won the game and the series two to one.
On Saturday the visitors batted first in the forty over encounter and made a healthy 234 runs. Mihir Chiksi was again the stand out performer making 102 runs not out which included eleven fours and three sixes. Harsh Jethra batted well for fifty three runs. Dhruv Pankhania (twenty four runs) and Darshan Mistry (twenty one runs) opened the innings to start things off. For Marsa Kevin Krishna , Bikram Arora and Sarfraz Ali took a wicket each.
The home team fell short totalling 214 runs with good performances from Nowell Khosla, Haroon Majeed, Zubair Raja, Sumair Khan and John Grima. For New City, Kaivel Patel, Darshan Mistry and Raj Tailor took two wickets each while Harsh Jethra and Mihir Choksi took a wicket each.
Thursday was Marsa’s only win in a low scoring game. The home team batted first and made 127 runs with Sumair Khan being the shining light with forty four runs. Raj Tailor, Harsh Jethra, Vinod Tailor,Dhruv Pankhania and Mihir Choksi were the wicket takers for New City. Ina great bowling effort from Marsa they managed to contain the visitors on 108 runs, with Justin Brooke taking three wickets and Haroon Majeed two.
Next Saturday the final game of the Winter league between Marsa C.C and Melita C.C will be played. In the morning the Sunoco Cricket academy will be from 9:00 till 10:30am.
