Catalunya too strong for Marsa

This was to be one of the better teams which the Marsa C.C have played against over a number of years.

On the Friday a twenty over game was played where the Catalunjan team batted first and made a reasonable score of 154 runs. Their main scorers were, M.Bashrat thirty five runs, T.Kazim twenty nine runs, A.Zia twenty six runs and A.Shakcor twenty three runs. For Marsa Nowell Khosla took three wickets, Haroon majeed and Bikram Arora took two wickets each and Frank Spiteri took one. The Marsa were bowled out for 82 runs with only Bikram Arora providing any resistance with thirty eight runs. For Catalunya , Z.Haider and N.Ahmed took three wickets each, Asif Khan took two and A.Tanvir one.

On Saturday in a forty over game the visitors batted first and put up a very challenging score of 259 runs. A.Khan top scored with sixty nine runs, Nisal Ahmed sixty six runs and T.Kazem forty six runs in the run feast. For Marsa Bikram Arora took four wickets, Sarfraz Ali three wickets , while Haroon Majeed and Ram Singh took a wicket each. The run chase provided plenty of starters for the Marsa team, Arora thirty teo runs, Haroon Majeed twenty four runs, Simon Lavendar twenty two runs, Nowell Khosla and RAM Singh twenty runs apiece. Unfortunately none went on to a big score. The home team finished with 190 runs. For the visitors Tanvir Ahmed, Z.Haider and M.Khan took two wickets each while M.Bashrat, Nesal Ahmed and Asif Khan took a wicket each.

On Sunday the final game was played and both teams put in their best batting displays for the series. The Cataluyians batted first again and had two centurians, A.Khan who made 121 runs which included thirteen fours and four sixes and M.Asif who made 140 runs which included fourteen fours and seven sixes. The team total at the end of the forty overs was 355 runs. For Marsa Haroon Majeed took two wickets , Zunair Raja and Mike Caruana took a wicket each.

The Marsa batting was lead by Nowell Khosla who played a brilliant innings and was unfortunate not to make a century falling two runs short in an innings which included eleven fours and a six. John Callus supported him well with a nudgie thirty six runs and Bikram Arora made forty eight runs . The Marsa team total was a gallant 250 runs. Tanvir Ahmed took three wickets and Mohsin took two for the visitors. The Nattional team of Catalunya win the game and the series three to nil.

The coming weekend the Marsa C.C take on new touring team The Emporers C.C in a two game series.
