Mixed results for Marsa
Last weekend was abusy one for Marsa C.C , last Friday afternoon they played against CMS C.C in a twenty over game, and continuing in a two game series against Eton Ramblers C.C who are both on their first visit to the island.
The home team batted first on Friday and made a reasonable total of 130 runs. Frank Spiteri top scored with twenty seven runs which included four boundaries. Tony Azzopardi made nineteen runs and Matt McKeogh sixteen runs. Amazingly their were thirty one extras which would determine the result. For CMS , G.Tan took two wickets while O.Chowdleuy, A.Tyagi, A.Moodie and D.Pastill took a wicket each.
CMS were bowled out with one ball remaining in the innings. They totalled 95 runs. J.Hewton and O.Chowdleuy both made twenty runs. For Marsa Sumair Khan and Tim Wheeler both took two wickets each while, Haroon Majeeed, Tony Slater, Tony Azzopardi and Justin Farrin Thorne all took a wicket each. A great start for the Marsa team.
On Saturday the Eton Ramblers batted first and totalled 237 from their overs. A.Carroll top scored with sixty six runs which included ten fours and two sixes, E.Russell scored thirty eight, R.Finch thirty one, J.Dunnington twenty four and T.Best twenty three runs. A good batting display all over. Could have been better if they were not bowled out in the thirty eighth over. For Marsa Derek Ali bowled well, taking four wickets, Suhrid Roy took two wickets while Ramadeep Singh, Sarfraz Ali and Ali Hamza all took a wicket each.
The Eton bowlers bowled extremely well and bowled out the Marsa team in the nineteenth over for 95 run. Ramadeep Singh put up some resistence making thirty two runs and Jonathan Tully smashed sixteen runs not out which included two fours and a six. For the Ramblers . J.Willis Flemming and E.Steel both took three wickets each while A.Taylor and E.Williams took two a piece. Big win for the visistors.
On Sunday the Ramblers batted first and bettered their previous day score, this time 285 runs. E. Williams was devastating with eighty nine runs which included six fours and a six. E.Maidment was on fire with fifty one runs from thirty seven balls which included seven fours and a six. A.Taylor made thirty seven, G.Deedes twenty six and E.Russell thirty two runs. For Marsa Andrew Naudi , Adam Krishna and Sumair Khan took two wickets each and Nowell Khosla took one. The Ramblers were happy enough with their score and probably were planning what to do with the extra time they would have if they bowl out the Marsa team early again.
To their surprise a hundred and twenty one run partnership from Nowell Khosla (seventy one runs, eight fours and two sixes) and Sam Aquilina (sixty eight runs, five fours and a six) kept the Marsa team well in the game, once they were out the Marsa team struggled in keeping up with the required run rate. A feisty forty runs not out from Sumair Khan towards the end of the innings was not enough to get the team over the line. The Marsa team were bowled out with an over to spare and totalled a competitive 262 runs. For the visitors A.Carroll was their saviour taking five wickets including the two main scorers for Marsa. G.Deedes took three wickets while E.Russell and E.Steel took a wicket each. Eton Ramblers win the series two to nil.
Next Weekend sees the return of Ladymead C.C who will be on their third tour to Malta, previous tours were in 2007 & 2008 where both teams have a series win.
