Cobra's on top
On Saturday the MCA Cricket Winter Wallop league continued after last weeks open day.
The Krishna Cobras C.C were up against the Marsa Magpies C.C. The Magpies were struggling for there first team and ended up having five new faces playing their first games for the club.
After winning the toss the Magpies batted. John Rusher opening the batting was first to go after dollying a catch to short mid off, not troubling the scoreres. His partner Mark G.Sacco was then part of a fifty run partnership with Newbie Mike George who was caught at point. Sacco went on to retire after thirty balls (local rule), he made twenty five runs. Sreejith Rajeev another of the new faces was happily dancing around the crease until he was beaten all ends up by Amy Caruana with a very well flighted delivery, John Grima quite happily took the stumping.
This was her second wicket for the day. After that had it not been for a brilliant knock from Anrew Naudi who made thirty runs from twenty two balls which included a boundary and two sixes , the Marsa total would have been a shambles. With thirty two extras which included seventeen wides which were worth twenty four runs the Magpies managed a moderate 122 runs. Mike Caruana managed to take three wickets while Amal Sebastion and Ramadeep Singh took a wicket each for the Cobras.
The Krishna team showed no mercy as they cruised to victory in the fourteenth over losing only two wickets along the way. Ravi Sharma was the first after making nine runs which included two boundaries from five deliveries and then was LBW to a delivery from Andrew Naudi. Ramadeep Singh was the other wicket to fall after making twenty eight runs from nineteen balls and then giving his wicket away with a simple caught and bowled to Tony Azzopardi.
Nowell Khosla was at his siplest best making forty four runs before having to retire. Malcolm Crabbe ( twenty four runs including three boundaries and the winning six of the game) and Sharoon Lazaar (one run) guided the Cobras to victory. The Magpies new they had their backs to the walls and tried eight bowlers along the way but could not find the breakthroughs they needed. Cobras win quite comfortably in the end. The Cobras with the win go to first place.
Next Saturday the Marsa Magpies will be looking to make up for the defeat, but will have a tough time against the Melita Bees.
Saturday morning the Sunoco Cricket Academy/Nursery will be from 9:00am till 10:30am.
