Marsa defeat Ingol to win series
After a disappointing previous weekend where the final of the Winter Wallop was postponed till April, The Marsa C.C played a two game series against English side Ingol C.C who are from Preston Lancashire.
On Saturday the home team batted first and made a moderate score of 212 from their forty overs and this was aided by forty two extras. John Grima top scored with fifty runs, this was Grima’s fifty second fifty against touring teams. It was a patient innings which included five boundaries. Paul Bradley scored forty four valuable runs and Haroon Majeed made thirty four runs which include three boundaries and a six.
For the visitors Eddie Oldfield was the main wicket taker with three, while Wild Smith, Joe Wood and L.Zolly took a wicket each.
Ingols reply began badly losing four wickets for forty two runs in the first fourteen overs and never recovered being bowled out for 150 runs in the thirty eigth over. Sammy Khan was top scorer with forty two runs, Anthony Dennis made thirty five runs and Joe Wood twenty five. Extras were worth thirty. For Marsa, Imran Salim, Paul BRADLEY AND Kevin Krishna all took two wickets each while Derek Ali, Haroon Majeed, Ronnie Sacco and Malik Asif took a wicket each. Marsa win the game.
On Sunday the visitors batted first and yet again were bowled out, this time for 140 runs. Matthew Walker was the only stand out batsmen with forty runs. Philip Houghton made sixteen runs and extras again were high with thirty. One must praise the youngster Suhrid Roy who spun his way to his first five wicket haul, one could say he had the batsmen in a spin. Mike Caruana took three wickets and Malik Asif took one. The other wicket was a great fielding effort from Bikram Arora who dove on the ball and threw down the stumps and left the batsmen well short of his ground.
In reply the Marsa batsmen took twenty four overs to win the game. A fantastic opening partnership of 121 runs between Bikram Arora (seventy nine runs, eleven fours and three sixes) and Feroz Ahmed (thirty five runs. four fours) set up the victory. Niraj Khanna 9 eleven not out) and Malcolm Crabbe ( four not out) saw the home team to victory. Interesting enough there were only twelve extras. Matthew Walker and Bart Thomas were the wicket takers.
Marsa win the game and the series.
Next week the Marsa C.C take on new team Mt. Hawke & Porthtowan CC in a three game series.
O Saturday the Sunoco Cricket academy/nursery will be from 9:00am till 10:30am.
