Convincing win for Marsa Cricket Club
Saturday 23rd May 2015 - Twenty20 Match: Marsa Select 189 for 2 (N Khosla 36, M G Sacco 31; D Kumar 1-17) beat Dublin Daredevils 160 for 7 (B Arora 45, M Kumar 31; A Naudi 2-16; D Galea 2-17) by 29 runs
Following last week’s win, the Marsa Select team again scored enough runs on Saturday to beat another visiting cricket team – this time the Dublin Daredevils from Ireland, this being their first tour to Malta. Marsa won the toss for this T20 and elected to bat. Openers Khosla and Grima put on 29 runs before Grima, on 9, was caught in the covers with a brilliant running catch by Ajay. Khosla scored 36, eventually being caught in the deep. The next three batsmen: M Sacco 31 (ret), A Naudi 25 (ret), H Majeed 42 off seventeen balls, didn’t lose their wicket; thus giving J Ghoseroy (10) and C Belford (2) a knock. Marsa totaled 189 runs. The two wickets were taken by D Kumar: 1-17; and Sumit Drall: 1-32.
In response, the Daredevils were tied down by A Naudi’s pace bowling and lost two wickets cheaply. But opener B Arora and N Kumar took their chances and punished any bad ball, hitting the boundary eleven times between them. With the score on 100 midway through the innings, two batsmen settled in and only another ninety runs required, skipper Khosla threw the ball to young Daniel Galea. The lad bowled excellently and took both batsmen’s wickets! Arora was caught by A Naudi for 45 and Kumar caught by G Lobban for 31. The sixth batsman, N Nagar, went out fighting with only six overs to go and was finally caught one handed on the boundary by Majeed for 27 runs off eleven balls. The Daredevils innings fizzled out in the final three overs and they finished 29 runs short. Other wickets fell to: S Ali and Ghoseroy one each; one run out (Grima)
This coming Saturday: The game at Marsa will be a Summer League warm-up T20 match between a Marsa Select and the Marauders team starting at 1:00pm. Also, the Sunoco Cricket Academy will continue at 9am.
