Gasperini in pole position to replace Leonardo
Gian Piero Gasperini is the latest tactician to be linked with Inter to replace Leonardo
Yesterday, Inter President Massimo Moratti reportedly held talks with Genoa’s Enrico Preziosi.
Relations between Genoa and Inter have been on good terms in recent years as a number of star players such as Milito and Motta have been purchased by Inter from Genoa.
If Gasperini is to sign with Inter, the contract Gasperini still has with Genoa has to be terminated.
Gasperini was replaced by Davide Ballardini in November 2010.
Even though Gasperini was terminated by Genoa, Preziosi said that Gasperini would be an excellent choice for Inter.
Other coaches mentioned for the hot seat are Porto’s Andres Villas Boas. Boas is a long shot due to a very expensive release clause in his contract.
Former Roma coach Claudio Ranieri and former Palermo coach Delio Rossi are also options for the Italian giants.
Former Chelsea and Milan coach Carlo Ancelotti is also available, but his close ties with Milan will surely keep him away from the blue side of Milan.
Earlier this week, Argentine Marcelo Bielsa was named as well, but he reportedly turned down the offer. Bielsa is in talks with Spanish side Athletic Bilbao to be their new tactician for the new season.
