Valletta to face Tarxien in first round of games for 2011/12 Premier League season
Premier League champions Valletta have been drawn to play Tarxien Rainbows in the first round of matches for the 2011/12 BOV Premier League which commences on the 19th of August.
The draws were held at the BOV Centre Santa Venera by MFA CEO Bjorn Vassallo and BOV Marketing Manager, Edward Muscat Azzopardi
Speaking before the draws took place, MFA CEO Bjorn Vassallo spoke about the importance of nurturing the football family amongst us adding that all this was being done in the terms of UEFA’s motto which is Respect. He said that the association would continue with its ambitious projects and would leave no stone unturned to ensure the continuing progress of the game.
The Third Division will start on 18th September and will conclude on 2nd May. The format will be on two rounds with each team playing 26 games. The first two teams will be promoted to the Second Division. Seven games on the same day, either Saturday or Sunday. The grounds to be used will be the ones at Luxol, Rabat Ajax, Centenary and Sirens Ground eventually.
The Second Division will start on 14th September and will finish on 14th May. Same format as Third Division with 26 games each, two promoted and three relegated. One game will be played on Friday whilst the other six will be played either on Saturday or on Sunday.
The First Division will start on 9th September and will finish on 12th May. 22 games in total played 2 on Friday, 2 on Saturday and 2 on Sunday. Two will be promoted and two relegated. Games will be played at Victor Tedesco Stadium in Hamrun and at the Luxol Stadium.
The Premier League will be composed of 12 teams. Super Cup will be played on 16th August with the first round played on the 19th of August. The same format over two rounds and the Championship Pool and Relegation Pool will be retained. Games will be played over three days, Friday Saturday and Sunday at the top three venues namely the National Stadium, the Hibs Ground in Kordin and the Victor Tedesco Stadium in Hamrun.
