Mifsud the hero as Malta defeat Central African Republic
Malta defeated Central African Republic 2-1 Wednesday evening at the National Stadium.
The match was an important part of the National team’s preparation for the two EURO 2012 qualifiers that Malta have against Croatia and Georgia next month.
Malta dominated throughout the match against at team that ranks 84 places higher than them in the FIFA Ranking.
Malta started the match in the best possible way after Michael Mifsud was brought down inside the area to have the referee point to the penalty spot. Mifsud converted to put Malta ahead just two minutes into the match.
The Africans leveled the score on the 25th minute after David Manga’s pass found Hilaire Momi who then slotted the ball past Malta goalkeeper Andrew Hogg.
Michael Mifsud was the hero again as he scored on the 43rd minute to put Malta in front again.
Ryan Fenech set up Mifsud who then concluded by beating the Central African goalkeeper with his shot.
The second half saw both teams with chances in front of goal, but Malta held on to register a confidence building victory.
