Floriana suspends goalie William Amamoo for Super Cup no-show

Ghanian international suspended for maximum period allowed after Super Cup final no-show.

Floriana FC has suspended new signing William Amamoo for the maximum period as permitted by Malta Football Association rules.

The Malta Football Association has been informed about the decision.

The Floriana FC Committee met yesterday to discuss the behaviour of player William Amamoo in the hours preceding the Super Cup final.

The new signing was reported to have told the Floriana coach he would not take part in the Super Cup final against Valletta, which the latter won 3-0.

“After careful evaluation of the facts, the player was deemed to be in breach of the contract that he signed with Floriana FC,” Mark Camilleri, Floriana media officer, said.

26-year-old Ghana international goalkeeper Amamoo has represented his country three times. He started his career in his homeland before playing in Romania, Hungary, Egypt and Sweden. He has vast international experience and reached the Intertoto Cup semi-finals on two occasions.

Amamoo, nicknamed the “black panther” in his country, is one of the best goalkeeping products Ghana has ever produced and has won the Goalkeeper of the Year award three times in different European leagues.
