Liverpool put three past Bolton to move top
Liverpool put in a fantastic performance yesterday afternoon to defeat Bolton with some great performances from their new signings.
Liverpool went on to defeat Bolton 3-1 with goals from Charlie Adam, Jordan Henderson and Martin Skrtel.
On the 15th minute Suarez was the man behind the first goal when his fabulous cross with the outside of his right foot met the run of Downing. The former Aston Villa winger’s volley produced a save of the top order from Jussi Jaaskelainen, but the ball was not cleared properly and found Henderson.
Henderson’s initial shot was blocked, but when it came back to him it was dispatched exquisitely into the top corner with his left foot.
Liverpool started the second half at break-neck speed, with two goals in a minute with Adam at the centre of everything.
On the 53nd minute, it was from his fantastic corner that substitute Martin Skrtel nodded home, beating his marker Zat Knight far too easily.
Then, from Bolton’s centre, the ball was stolen with Dirk Kuyt finding Adam, who shrugged off a challenge from Nigel Reo-Coker to fire his shot into the bottom corner on his supposedly weaker right-foot as he became the second player of the day to score his first Liverpool goal just a minute later.
Bolton scored an injury time consolation goal through Ivan Klasnic after a mistake from Jamie Carragher in clearing a through-ball, but Kenny Dalglish will have cause for much optimism in his side's quest for Champions League qualification.
In other matches Chelsea avoided an early blow to their title hopes but lost Didier Drogba to a sickening injury as they struck late again to beat 10-man Norwich 3-1 at Stamford Bridge.
The Canaries looked set to stun the home crowd when Grant Holt pounced on a horrible error from Hilario to equalise after Jose Bosingwa's first goal for almost three years, and Drogba then appeared to be knocked unconscious in an aerial challenge with Norwich keeper John Ruddy.
But Frank Lampard blasted home from the penalty spot after Ruddy was sent off for fouling Ramires and Juan Mata scored late on his debut.
Elsewhere, Everton midfielder Mikel Arteta scored an injury-time penalty as Blackburn were made to pay for missing two second-half spot-kicks of their own at Ewood Park.
Junior Hoilett saw his penalty saved by Tim Howard a minute after half-time before Mauro Formica shot against the post.
Arteta then delivered the killer blow in injury time, after Christopher Samba climbed on the back of Marouane Fellaini, to hand Everton their first win and leave Rovers pointless.
At the Liberty Stadium, Swansea's inability to take their chances means they still await their first Premier League goal and win after drawing with Sunderland.
Record signing Danny Graham headed their best chance wide when unmarked inside the box, while the striker forced two fine saves from Simon Mignolet and Scott Sinclair stuck the bar.
Sunderland also continue to wait for their first win this term and this result will have done little to lift the pressure on boss Steve Bruce.
Earlier in the day, Franco Di Santo's double earned Wigan a 2-0 victory at the DW Stadium as QPR new boy Joey Barton watched from the stands.
The Argentinian smashed home a right-footed effort five minutes before the break and put the result beyond doubt after 66 minutes when his deflected effort looped over Paddy Kenny.
Wolves survived a second-half battering in the day's other early kick-off to earn a hard-fought 0-0 draw at Aston Villa and move to seven points from three games.
