Manchester United humiliate Arsenal

Manchester United added more misery to Arsenal as they defeated them 8-2 at Old Trafford.

United continued their perfect start to the season after they demolished Arsenal.

Wayne Rooney scored a hat-trick to become Manchester United’s all-time top Premier League scorer moving ahead of Ryan Giggs. Ashley Young scored two goals while Danny Welbeck, Nani and Park Ji-Sung all added their name to the score sheets.Theo Walcott and Robin van Persie scored two consolation goals for Arsenal.

After the match Arsenal coach said he would not quit his job after Arsenal’s current bad streak and United ‘s Sir Alex Ferguson also backed Arsenal coach.

"We had too many players out. It was too much," Wenger said.

"We were poor defensively but there were points in the game where we had quality.

"I just feel we collapsed more physically than anything.

"It is better not to talk too much about this because it hurts.

"We have to sort out our problems because, so far, we haven't managed to do that.

"We are working very hard to find players but of course we are behind the other teams when it comes to wages."

Efforts to sign Bolton's Gary Cahill will continue, with Wenger confirming Arsenal need a defender and a midfield player.

And while the search continues, he is ready to take any criticism.

"I am in a public job and I have to accept that," Wenger said.

"I have to make the right decision for the club and I will continue to that.

"We have played three games and I think you should give me more time to say if I have got it completely wrong."

United manager Sir Alex Ferguson was surprised by the ease of his side's success despite Arsenal missing so many first-team regulars.

"It is (a surprise) because when you play Arsenal you expect a difficult game," he said.

"If you look at Arsenal the team is weakened - but we still did the job.

"We got careless at times and they made chances because they still have quality up front

"But overall we are very satisfied that we kept the performance levels up."

With his counterpart Wenger likely to come in for more criticism this week, Ferguson again leapt to the Frenchman's defence.

"I think it is unfair to criticise him," he said.

"The job he's done for Arsenal and the philosophy he has - he has given Arsenal some very entertaining players.

"He's also sold well and looked after the Arsenal coffers. People forget these things. It's a cynical world now and when you lose a few games the judges come out."

In other matches Edin Dzeko scored four times as he and debutant Samir Nasri helped Manchester City thrash Tottenham 5-1 with a ruthless display of attacking football at White Hart Lane.

Leon Best emerged from the Tyneside shadows to prove there is life after Joey Barton as Newcastle maintained their unbeaten start to the Premier League season with a 2-1 win over Fulham.

And finally West Brom and Stoke appeared set to share the spoils in a goalless draw until Potters substitute Ryan Shotton scored a dramatic late winner after a defensive mix-up between Ben Foster and Gabriel Tamas.
