Inzaghi not happy with Champions League omission

Milan coach Massimiliano Allegri has admitted that striker Pippo Inzaghi was not very happy when given the news that he will be left out of Milan’s Champions League squad.

Allegri admitted that the veteran striker has been left out due to fitness concerns.

“I spoke to Pippo,” Allegri told the press. “He didn’t take the news well, but that is only understandable.

“However, I told him that we’ll wait for his return in January in the hope that he recovers full fitness by then.”

Champions League football is a special competition for 38 year old Inzaghi. In 115 games, Inzaghi has scored 70 times, just to goals shy of former Real Madrid striker Raul’s 72 total. Raul is currently the all-time top scorer in European competitions.

Milan will have four strikers available for the Champions League group stages. Antonio Cassano, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Alexandre Pato and Robinho will have to make good for Inzaghi’s absence.
