Cagliari defeat Roma as Juventus shine in new stadium

Roma started the new season in the worst possible way by losing to Cagliari 2-1 at the Stadio Olimpico.

Alessandro Agostini fired in a cross from the left-hand side, finding Conti who, against his old club, struck from 10 yards out to give Cagliari a 1-0 lead on the 68th minute.

The second goal arrived with one minute remaining, Moestafa El Kabir doubled Cagliari's lead, smashing the ball into the far corner.

De Rossi then made the scoreline slightly more respectable with the last kick of the game; pouncing on a loose ball in the box, after a Totti free-kick, but the damage was done, and Luis Enrique has been left with much to think about ahead of his side's next match.

Juventus christened their new stadium and made a firm statement of intent with a comprehensive 4-1 Serie A victory over Parma.

Andrea Pirlo produced a superb display in midfield for the Turin giants, and goals from Stephan Lichtsteiner, Simone Pepe, Arturo Vidal and Claudio Marchisio fired the hosts to a confident opening-day win. Sebastian Giovinco scored from the penalty spot seconds before the final whistle to give Parma a consolation goal.
