Turks humiliate Inter
Inter are in a major crisis after first losing to Palermo and now losing to Turkish side Trabzonspor in Group B of the Champions League.
Inter were the dominant side throughout the entire match, but their lack of precision in front of goal made them pay at the end.
The match turned upside down for Inter late in the second half when Trabzonspor took advantage of Inter’s lack of organisation at the back.
On the 76th minute Esteban Cambiasso failed to clear Halil Alintop's shot that hit the crossbar. Ondrej Celutska was on hand to steal possession and sweep his shot past the stranded Julio Cesar to give the visitors an unlikely lead.
Inter piled on the pressure in the last 15 minutes with Coutinho having the best chance to equalising for Inter, but it would not be as the Turkish side held on to claim one of their biggest wins in their history.
With Lille and CSKA Moscow drawing 2-2 in the other match, the 2010 winners find themselves bottom of the table.
Seydou Doumbia's last-minute strike rescued a 2-2 draw for CSKA Moscow after the Russian side had looked down and out in their Group B opener in Lille.
Goals by Moussa Sow and Benoit Pedretti had the French champions well in control after an hour of the encounter at Stade Metropole.
But the Russians hit back, and after Doumbia reduced the deficit with his first 18 minutes from time, the Ivorian doubled his tally in the final moments.
In Group A, Manchester City were forced to settle for a draw in their first foray into Champions League football as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Serie A side Napoli.
Defender Aleksandar Kolarov rescued a point for Robero Mancini's men with a fine free-kick which cancelled out Edinson Cavani's 69th minute opener.#
In the other Group A fixture, Bayern Munich began their Champions League Group A campaign on a high note as they earned a 2-0 victory over Villarreal at El Madrigal.
Toni Kroos opened the scoring after just seven minutes, and substitute Rafinha, who replaced the injured Daniel Van Buyten midway through the first half, put the game out of reach in the 76th minute.
In Group C, A stunning equaliser from Ryan Giggs just before half-time was enough to earn Manchester United a hard-earned 1-1 draw against Benfica in their opening fixture of the Champions League.
United had gone behind after some poor defensive work and a good finish from striker Oscar Cardozo early in the first half, but Giggs' goal against the run of play brought last year's runners up a much needed point against the team likely to challenge them for the top spot in the group.
In the other Group C match Alexander Frei's late penalty earned Basle an unimpressive 2-1 victory at home to Champions League debutants Otelul Galati.
Real Madrid made a solid start to their Group D campaign with a hard-fought 1-0 win over Dinamo Zagreb which saw them finish with 10 men.
The prestigious Spanish outfit, with coach Jose Mourinho banished to the stands serving a touchline ban, were in the ascendancy throughout but only Angel Di Maria's second-half strike earned them the points.
The narrow win was tarnished, too, by the dismissal of Marcelo for two bookings in quick succession, the second being handed out for diving.
Ajax and Lyon drew 0-0 in the other Group D game.
Goals by Toni Kroos and Marcio Rafinha guided Bayern Munich to a comfortable 2-0 victory at Villarreal in their opening match in Group A.
Kroos opened the scoring in the seventh minute, with Rafinha sealing victory with a little under 15 minutes remaining.
