Mqabba leave it late to hold Birkirkara as Floriana win

Mqabba came back from behind twice to hold Birkirkara to a 2-2 draw yeterday evening.

Mqabba and Birkirkara both started the match looking dangerous on both sides of the pitch.

Bojhan Mamic went very close for Mqabba while Rodrigo Pereira also was very close to scoring for Birkirkara in the first five minutes of the match.

Birkirkara took the lead on the 16th when Mosies Avila Perez advanced after reciving a accurate pass from the left to conclude by beating goalkeeper Kris Calleja with his shot.

In the second half, Mqabba did not take long to equalise. Seven minutes after the start, John Paul Muscat served Bojan Mamic who then beat goalkeeper Jorge Mora with his shot.

On the 74th minute, Birkirkara regained their lead, when off a Leighton Grech freekick, Moises Avila headed the ball in the direction of teammate Rodrigo Frank Pereira who then made no mistake with his header to make the score 2-1.

The lead did not last long for Birkirkara as Mqabba equalised just two minutes later. Bojan Mamic concluded a great run to beat goalkeeper Jorge Mora again with his shot.

Bojan Mamic was voted BOV Player of the Match.

In the other match, Floriana returned to winning ways after they defeated Hamrun Spartans 1-0.

Hamrun had a great scoring opportunity in the opening minutes when Kevin Sammut’s header went just wide.

Floriana took the lead late in the first half. On the 40th minute, Duncan Pisani served Ivan Woods who then controlled the ball well before beating goalkeeper Omar Borg with his shot.

Hamrun continued to have a number of great scoring opportunities, but Floriana held on to secure all three points.
