Qormi defeat Hamrun thanks to late penalty
Qormi defeated Hamrun Spartuns 3-2 in the final seconds of the match after they were awarded a penalty shot.
This is the third victory for Qormi this season, while Harun remain at the bottom of the table.
Qormi scored the first goal of the evening on the seventh minute. Jorge Pereira Da Silva served Luke Sciberras who then lobbed the ball over Hamrun goalkeeper Omar Borg.
Hamrun came close on the 33rd minute but Kevin Scicluna cleared the goal line to prevent Gaetan Spiteri’s shot from going in.
Hamrun scored the equaliser seconds before the first half ended. When Gianluca Calabretta’s cross was partially saved by goalkeeper Matthew Farrugia, Massimo Grima was there to pick up the rebound and score.
On the 63rd minute, Qormi regained the lead. Abubakar Bello-Osagie served Daniel Nwoke who then dribbled past the Hamrun players to have his powerful shot beat the Hamrun goalkeeper to make the score 2-1.
On the 77th minute, Hamrun were back in the matcvh after they scored the equaliser. Off a pass from the left, Kevin Sammut beat goalkeeper Matthew Farrugia with his shot.
As the match was coming to an end, it seemed both teams would be sharing the points, but in the final seconds Qormi were rewarded a penalty.
Gianluca Calabretta brought Jorge Pereira down inside the area to have Referee Marco Borg point to the penalty spot. Joseph Farrugia made no mistake to hand Qormi all three points.
