Qormi and Floriana share the spoils as Birkirkara defeat Marsaxlokk
Qormi and Floriana played to a 1-1 draw at the Hibernians Stadium on Friday evening.
Floriana pressed early on, but Qormi managed to take the lead on the 25th minute. Luke Sciberras’s cross was intercepted by former Floriana striker Daniel Nwoke. Nwoke’s shot was then deflected into the net by Qormi’s defender.
In the second half, Floriana pressed for a equaliser, and it finally arrived on the 69th minute.
Tyrone Farrugia beat goalkeeper Matthew Farrugia with a great header after receiving a cross from the right.
Qormi were very close to taking the lead on the 78th minute, but Daniel Nwoke’s shot hit the woodwork.
In the other match, Birkirkara returned to winning ways as they gave Marsaxlokk their fourth defeat in six matches with a 2-1 victory.
As the first half remained goalless, Birkirkara took the managed to take the lead on the 58th minute.
A direct freekick by Rodrigo Pereira left no chance for goalkeeper Christian Cassar.
Birkirkara doubled the score on the 71st minute with some class. Following a cross from Leighton Grech, Moises Avila Perez’s over-head kick beat the Qormi goalkeeper.
In added time, Marsaxlokk managed to score a consolation goal. Substitute Dylan Kokavessis’ rising shot beat goalkeeper Jorge Mora.
