Balzan hold Sliema to share the points

Balzan Youths and Sliema Wanders played to a 1-1 draw yesterday afternoon.

Sliema still have not been defeated this season, as Balzan are still searching for their first victory of the season.

Sliema scored the opening goal on the 21st minute thanks to a penalty shot.

Bledjon Guga handled the ball inside the area and the referee immediately pointed to the penalty spot. Daniel Mitev made no mistake to give Sliema the lead.

Balzan Youth missed a great opportunity to equalise on the 33rd minute when Kim Bright’s header hit the woodwork.

Balzan managed to score the equaliser on the 54th minute when off a Fagner Lins Bernardes corner, Kris Bright headed the ball towards Miguel Ciantar who then beat goalkeeper Henry Bonello with his header.

Balzan started to put pressure on Sliema towards the end of the match.

Just four minutes from time, Balzan were awarded a direct freekick after goalkeeper Henry Bonello handled the ball after a backpass from Josef Mifsud.

Bledjon Guga took the freekick which was then saved on the goal line by Bonello.

Blazan’s Kris Bright ruined an excellent opportunity to give Balzan victory on the 90th minute after he had a poor conclusion on goal after he was served by Lydon Lydon Micallef.

Matthew Camilleri was voted BOV Player of the Match.
