Hamrun Spartans clinch much needed victory

Hamrun were the dominant side during the match as they immediately took an impressive lead with Mqabba almost making a comeback late in the match.

Hamrun had to wait till the 36th minute before they took the lead. Off a Massimo Grima freekick, Anderson Mendes Ribeiro headed the ball past goalkeeper Kris Calleja.

On the 51st minute, Hamrun Spartans were awarded a penalty after Dene Shields was brought down inside the area. Shields made no mistake from the penalty spot to give Hamrun a two goal lead.

Hamrun continued to show their dominance as they scored another goal on the 72nd minute. Dene Shields cross found Lee James Agius who's first attempt on goal was blocked by the Mqabba keeper, but Agius managed to pick up the rebound and score.

Mqabba finally got on the score sheet as on the 80th minute. John Paul Muscat perfect pass found Thiago dos Santos Mazzitelli who beat goalkeeper Andrea Cassar with his close range shot.

In added time Mqabba were awarded a penalty. Hamrun's Massimo Grima handled the ball in the area to have the referee point to the penalty spot. Bojan Mamic made no mistake to make the final score 3-2 in Hamrun's favour.

Dene Shields was voted the BOV Player of the Match.
