Two late goals from Balzan sink Hamrun

Balzan Youths defeated Hamrun Spartans after coming back from one goal down to defeating them 2-1 thanks to a stoppage time goal yesterday afternoon.

Balzan Youths started the match in a positive way as they almost scored the opening goal just three minutes after the start. A freekick from Pedro dos Santos Calcado was cleared off the goal line by goalkeeper Andrea Cassar.

Hamrun managed to take the lead on the 13th minute. A freekick by Carlo Polli ended up hitting the woodwork before ending up at the back of the net.

On the 75th minute, Hamrun were reduced to ten men when Kevin Azzopardi received his second yellow card in the space of two minutes.

As the match seemed to be ending in Hamrun's favour, Balzan started their onslaught on what would hand them all three points.

On the 87th minute, Balzan scored the equaliser thanks to an own goal. Off a Pedro dos Santos Calcado freekick, Hamrun's David Camilleri deflected the ball with his header to have it beat goalkeeper Andrea Cassar.

The situation turned to the worse for Hamrun as in stoppage time Balzan found the winning goal. Off another freekick by Calcado, Rennie Forace was left unmarked and headed the ball in past Andrea Cassar to give Balzan Youths all three points.
