Catania defeat Torino to win quadrangular tournament
Italian Serie A side Catania defeated Serie B side Torino yesterday afternoon 2-0 to win the Trofeo Portomasolive.com tournament.
Catania's Maxi Lopez put his side ahead on the 18th minute after his shot from inside the area beat Torino's goalkeeper Davide Morello.
Mariano Izco secured victory for Catania three minutes from time when his powerful rising shot beat the Torino goalkeeper.
Hibernians placed third after they defeated Qormi 2-0. Hibernians took the lead on the 17th minute with a goal by Bjorn Kristensen.
Hibernians scored their second goal thanks to a penalty when Peter Anizoba was brought down inside the area. Clayton Failla made no mistake from the penalty spot to make it 2-0.
Qormi were defeated by Torino 3-1 in the semi-final match.
Torino took the lead on the 7th minute when Mirco Antenucci shot beat goalkeeper Matthew Farrugia.
Torino doubled the score on the 17th minute when a powerful shot by Mirco Antenucci was deflected by goalkeeper Matthew Farrugia, but Antenucci was there to pick up the re-bound and place the ball at the back of the net.
Simone Verde had his fantastic shot beat the Qormi goalkeeper on the 23rd minute to make the score 3-0.
On the 26th minute, Qormi scored a consolation goal thanks to a penalty shot. Abubakar Bello-Osagie made no mistake from the penalty spot.
Three minutes later, Torino were awarded a penalty after Ebagua was brought down inside the area. But Mirco Antenucci's attempt was saved by Qormi's Matthew Farrugia.
Catania defeated Hibernians 2-0 in the other semi-final match.
Hibernians were no intimidated by the Serie A giants and immediately went on the attack.
Three minutes into the match, Edison Luis dos Santos shot was unlucky not to score. Then on the 12th minute a free kick by Andrew Cohen ended just over the bar.
Catania finally managed to take the lead and ease the pressure from Hibernians on the 32nd minute. Substitute Alejandro Gomez fantastic shot beat goalkeeper Lys Gomis.
On the 34th minute, Alfredo Donnarumma doubled the score for Catania with his shot from outside the area leaving no chance for the Hibernians goalkeeper.
