Qormi return to winning ways in perfect fashion
Qormi put in a fantastic display and returned to winning ways yesterday afternoon when they defeated Hamrun Spartans 3-0.
This was an important victory for Qormi as they had suffered three consecutive defeats in their previous matches.
Hamrun are also going through a difficult phase as this defeat was their fourth in five matches.
Qormi showed their dominance from the beginning of the match, and after a number of failed attempts they finally managed to take the lead on the 33rd minute. Jorge Pereira da Silva served Joseph Farrugia with a precise pass to have the latter's powerful shot beat goalkeeper Omar Borg.
On the 38th minute, Qormi had a chance to take the lead when they were awarded a penalty after Jorge Pereira da Silva was brought down inside the area. Joseph Farrugia's effort was partially saved by goalkeeper Omar Borg and off the rebound, Matthew Bartolo's attempt was then saved by the Hamrun goalkeeper.
On the 66th minute, Qormi doubled the score when Matthew Bartolo served Jorge Pereira who then easily put the ball past the Hamrun goalkeeper.
Ten minutes later, Hamrun had a good chance to score, but Dene Shields effort was turned into a corner by goalkeeper Matthew Farrugia.
On the 78th minute, Qormi were awarded another penalty when Steve Bonnici brought Jorge Pereira da Silva inside the area. Jorge Pereira da Silva made no mistake from the penalty spot to score Qormi's third goal of the match.
Moments later, Hamrun were reduced to ten-men after goalkeeper Omar Borg was sent off.
Joseph Farrugia was voted BOV Player of the match.
