Late goal gives ten-man Sliema victory

Ten-man Sliema defeated Birkirkara in the final minute of the match yesterday to give them all three points.

Sliema immediately went on the attack when Jean Pierre Mifsud had a attempt on goal, but goalkeeper Reuben Gauci blocked his effort.

Sliema continued to press for the opening goal, but on the other side of the pitch Terrence Vella had his effort from close range thwarted by Sliema goalkeeper Henry Bonello.

The match for Sliema was made more difficult when Beppe Muscat received a second yellow card and was sent off.

As both sides continued to have numerous chances on goal in the second half, it was Sliema who took the points with their late winner.

On the 90th minute, off a Daniel Mitev cross, Jeremia Ani headed the ball past goalkeeper Reuben Gauci to give his team victory.

Alan Tabone was voted BOV Player of the Match.
