FA Trophy: Pietà crush Marsaxlokk to reach quarter-finals
First Division leaders Pietà Hotspurs put Marsaxlokk to shame as they defeated the Premier League side 5-1 to advance to the quarter-finals of the U*BET FA Trophy.
Pietà are turning out to be the giant killers of the competition as they also eliminated Tarxien Rainbows in the previous round.
Pietà managed to take the lead on the 19th minute thanks to Adrian Farrugia. Off a cross by Jurgen Pisani, Vinicius Pereira dos Santos attempt on goal hit the woodwork, but Farrugia was on hand to pick up the rebound and put his team ahead.
Marsaxlokk managed to score the equaliser on the 37th minute when off a cross by Modesto Valeriani, Jean Paul Farrugia's header left no chance for goalkeeper Miguel Montfort.
The first half ended with both teams having a goal each.
Pietà managed to take the lead on the 56th minute. Vinicius Pereira dos Santos made no mistake with his shot off a free kick from Cleaven Cassar.
Zach Muscat made it 3-1 for Pietà on the 70th minute after he picked up a rebound off a free kick by dos Santos and beat goalkeeper Christian Cassar with his effort.
Marsaxlokk's match turned for the worse on the 78th minute when they were reduced to ten-men after Patrick Borg received his second yellow card after a foul on Vinicius Pereira dos Santos.
On the 80th minute, Pietà made sure they took advantage of Marsaxlokk being one man down to score their fourth goal of the match. Vinicius Pereira dos Santos made no mistake with his shot after he received a perfect cross from Jonathan Zarate.
On the 90th minute, Pietà added more misery to Marsaxlokk as they made it 5-1 with Matthew Agius beating goalkeeper Christian Cassar with his shot.
