Sources close to the MFA have confirmed to MaltaToday that former Torino coach Giancarlo Camolese is very close to signing on as new national coach.

"Talks with the Italian coach are moving forward at a fast pace. It is 99% coming to a conclusion," the source said.

Earlier this week, Calciomercato.com also revealed that the former Lazio player was very close to signing with the MFA.

Giancarlo Camolese started his professional football career with Torino but then he moved on to play for Biellese, Reggina, Alessandria, Lazio, Padova, Vicenza and Taranto. Camolese retired from football in 1993.

His coaching career started as a youth coach for Torino. He then was promoted as Torino's first team coach in 2001 after the sacking of Luigi Simoni.

Camolese lead Torino to promotion in Serie A and also kept them in Serie A for the following season.

After leaving Torino in 2002, Camolese went on to coach Reggina helping them not to be relegated to Serie B that season.

The Italian coach also had stints with Vincenza, Livorno and Torino for the second time.

There seems to be the erroneous thought at the MFA that only a foreign coach achieves results. Our last duopoly was a bad choice from the start but why not give our only really successful coach a chance. His nickname is ZAZU and he fits the bill (sic) perfectly. Anyone agree with me?
