Valletta continue winning as Mosta put three past Mqabba
Valletta extended their lead at the top of the BOV Premier League standings with a 2-0 victory over Balzan Youths Friday evening.
Valletta now lead the standings with 54 points. This would be a important victory for Valletta as their closest rivals Hibernians and Floriana face each other today.
Valletta took the early lead on the 14th minute thanks to Aleksandars Cekulajevs goal.
As the first half ended with Valletta having a one goal lead, the second half would be much harder for Balzan as they were reduced to ten-men on the 63rd minute.
Balzan's Bledjon Guga was sent off after receiving his second yellow card.
Valletta doubled their lead on the 77th minute when Roderick Briffa's powerful shot left no chance for goalkeeper Matthew Camilleri.
Ousseni Zongo was voted BOV Player of the Match.
In the other match Friday evening, Mosta returned to winning ways after they defeated Mqabba 3-0.
As Mosta are back to winning this defeat was the second in a row for Mqabba.
On the 17th minute, Mosta managed to take the lead thanks to a penalty shot being awarded to them. David Fenech brought Obinna Obiefule down inside the area to have referee Trustin Farrugia Cann send off Fenech and point to the penalty spot.
Front the penalty spot Obinna Obiefule made no mistake to beat goalkeeper Kris Calleka with his shot.
In the closing seconds of the first half, Mosta were also reduced to ten-man when Florent Raimy was sent off.
On the 69th minute, Obinna Obiefule scored his second goal of the evening to double Mosta lead. Off a bad clearance from the Mqabba defence, Obiefule dribbled past goalkeeper Kris Calleja to make it 2-0.
Ian Zammit made it 3-0 for Mosta on the 78th minute. Zammit's first effort from just outside the area hit the woodwork to have Zammit pick up the rebound and score on his second attempt.
Obinna Obiefule was voted BOV Player of the Match.
