Hamrun defeat Marsaxlokk in eight goal thriller

Hamrun came back from behind to defeat Marsaxlokk 6-2 in a thrilling match.

Marsaxlokk took the lead on the 13th minute after Peter Taiye Oladotun passed to Jean Paul Farrugia who easily beat goalkeeper Omar Borg with his shot.

Hamrun managed to score the equaliser on the 23rd minute with some fine team work. A pass from Gaetan Spiteri to Kevin Sammut was headed by the latter in the direction of Gianluca Calabretta who then concluded by placing the ball at the back of the net.

Marsaxlokk managed to regain the lead on the 37th minute. Alex Cesar Pedrozo served Peter Taiye Oladotun who then easily beat the Hamrun Spartans' goalkeeper with his shot from inside the area.

The excitement would continue in the second half when Hamrun managed to score the equaliser again two minutes into the second half. Off a corner by Matthew Gauci, Massimo Grima headed the ball past the goalkeeper to make it 2-2.

The match would now start to turn in Hamrun's favour.

On the 69th minute, Kevin Sammut setup Gianluca Calabretta who made no mistake in front of the Marsaxlokk goal.

Just two minutes later, Massimo Grima's fantastic direct freekick left no chance for goalkeeper Christian Cassar to make the score 4-2.

It was all Hamrun now as on the 74th minute, a Gaetan spiteri shot hit the woodwork to have Dene Shields pick up the rebound and make it 5-2.

On the 82th minute, Hamrun added more misery to Marsaxlokk.
Ronni Hartvig headed the ball in after receiving a precise cross from David Camilleri.

Massimo Grima was voted BOV Player of the Match.
