Pires ready to return to the English Premiership

Former Arsenal midfielder Robert Pires is eager to return to England and West Ham United are ready to swoop for the French World Cup winner, according to The Mirror.

Pires is a free agent after his contract expired at Spanish club Villareal and has stated that he would like the chance to play in England again.

The 36-year-old spent six glorious years at Arsenal, where he won two Premier League titles and three FA Cups. Pires was also a member of the ‘the invincibles’ team that remained undefeated throughout the 2004 Premier League campaign.

Ex hammers boss Gianfranco Zola identified Pires as a possible transfer target last season and although he has now left the club, the club are still keen on the star midfielder.

Pires can play either on the wing just behind the two strikers and West Ham feel that he can give the service similar to that of former player Teddy Sheringham did in the closing years of his playing career.
