Balzan secure Championship Pool spot
Balzan youths secured a place in the Championship Pool after they defeated Tarxien Rainbows 1-0.
Balzan were the dominant side and as well their goalkeeper Matthew Camilleri was in top form to keep Tarxien from taking advantage.
Tarxien went close nine minutes into the match when a header by Ricardo Costa scraped by the post.
Balzan managed to score the opening goal on the 18th minute. Pedro dos Santos Calcado's perfect direct freekick left no chance for Tarxien's goalkeeper Nicky Vella.
Balzan started to gain more confidence after taking the lead and were producing more chances in front of the Tarxien goal.
Balzan's Jamie Pace had his effort go just wide on the 39th minute.
Balzan went close again on the 70th minute. Off a cross by Martin Deyanov, Anthony Eviparker headed the ball in the direction of Nikola Tasix who then shot right over the crossbar from close range.
On the 80th minute, Tarxein were reduced to ten-men after Everton Antonio Pereira was sent of for receiving a second yellow card.
Luis Romulo de Castro had his powerful shot saved by Balzan's goalkeeper Matthew Camilleri on the 82nd minute.
The match ended with Balzan Youths securing a place in the Championship Pool and making history by retaining their Premier League status for the first time in the history of the club.
Pedro dos Santos Calcado was voted the BOV Player of the Match.
