Sheffield United link to Michael Mifsud

 But McCabe, who persuaded the Football League to hold their annual general meeting on the Mediterranean island earlier this month, has pledged to consult Bramall Lane's coaching staff before pressing ahead with any bid for the 29-year-old.

United, who recently announced that Mifsud's compatriot Daniel Bogdanovic has agreed a move from Barnsley, boast strong ties with the holiday destination after brokering a sponsorship deal with its tourism authority.

And McCabe is confident he could exploit those links to deliver Mifsud, another former Oakwell forward, if manager Kevin Blackwell decides he would be a valuable addition.
