Cagliari release Massimiliano Allegri to Milan

Cagliari have have severed all ties with coach Massimiliano Allegri and he will join Milan, the club announced today.

A statement on their official website reads:

"Despite the disappointment left to us by Massimiliano Allegri following his behaviour towards the end of the season, president Massimo Cellino has released him following a request from Milan.

"Despite Milan giving their availability, Cagliari Calcio did not ask for any financial return. Allegri's exit now permits Cagliari to find a new coach."

Milan chief Adriano Galliani said a deal in principle was in place with Allegri, but Milan did not confirm it officially via a statement.

"We have found an agreement for Allegri and I want to thank Cellino who did not ask for anything in return," Galliani told Sky Sport Italia soon after Cagliari announced the move.

The deal was on the verge of failing this morning when Galliani threatened to pull out.

But a phone call between Cellino and the Milan chief eased tension and an agreement was reached.
