Euro Cup: Valletta defeat rivals Floriana
Champions Valletta defeated Floriana 2-1 Wednesday afternoon to win the first match of the Euro Cup.
Under the guidance of new coach Mark Miller and assistant Gilbert Agius, Valletta started of their new season on a positive note.
Valletta did not take long to go ahead as in the first minute of play, Jhonnattann Benites found William Barbosa with his pass to have the latter beat goalkeeper Jurgen Borg with his low shot.
On the 34th minute, Jhonnattan was the master mind of another goal when this time he served Denni Rocha dos Santos who then found the back of the net with his shot.
Floriana was having a hard time to break down the Valletta defence, but on the 76th minute Floriana managed to reduce the gap.
Off a cross by Brooke Farrugia, Ryan Darmanin headed the ball in the direction of Manolito Micallef who then managed to beat Yenz Cini from close range.
