Record victory for Valletta over FC Lusitans

Valletta made history as they defeated FC Lusitans 8-0 to establish the highest record of goals that any Maltese club has scored in European competition.

Valletta have have practically secured a place in the second qualifying round of the UEFA Champions League as they crushed their opponents FC Lusitans in their first leg match yesterday evening at the Hibernians Stadium.
FC Lusitans started on the attack, but Valletta immediately took control of the match.
Valletta managed to take the lead as early as the fourth minute when off a corner by Jhonnattann, Jonathan Caruana's header found the back of the net when it was defelected by a FC Lusitans defender.
After missing some good chances in front of the visitors goal, Michael Mifsud made no mistake on the 10th minute. Off a cross by Jhonnattann, Michael Mifsud headed the ball in past goalkeeper Andres Benitez.
Seven minutes later, Valletta made it 3-0. William Barbosa started the play by passing to Denni Rocha dos Santos with the latter serving Jhonnattann who then slotted the ball past FC Lusitians goalkeeper.
Michael Mifsud made it 4-0 less than a minute later. Mifsud produced a fantastic solo effort as he dribbled past a defender and the goalkeeper to score from close range.
On the 22nd minute, Jhonnattann scored another to make it 5-0 as he had his perfect lob beat goalkeeper Andres Benitez.
Michael Mifsud completed his hat-trick just before the first half ended when he was served by Roderick Briffa to slot the ball home to make it 6-0.
The second half started the same with Valletta in total command, as FC Lustitans could not seem the figure out what was happening.
After a number of missed opportunities for Valletta, Mifsud scored his fourth goal of the match to make it 7-0. Michael Mifsud was setup by Roderick Briffa to dribble past the goalkeeper and find the back of the net with his shot.
Valletta managed to score their record eight goal on the 72 minute. Substitute Edmond Agius also found the back of the net when he scored from close range after receiving a perfect pass from Roderick Briffa.
The second leg will be played in Andorra next Tuesday.
