Qormi add more misery to Sliema
Qormi are back to winning ways after they defeated Sliema Wanderers 2-1 on Saturday evening.
This would be Sliema’s second consecutive defeat.
The match looked to be going in Sliema’s favour when they took the lead five minutes into the match. A great shot by Miguel Ciantar from just outside the area left no chance for goalkeeper Matthew Farrugia.
Qormi managed to get back in the match when they scored the equaliser on the 29th minute. Off a corner kick by Edison Bilbao Zarate, Vincenzo Pisani beat goalkeeper Henry Bonello with his great overhead kick.
Sliema went close to taking the lead again on the 39th minute when Matias Muchardi’s powerful shot was heading for goal, but some great goalkeeping by Matthew Farrugia kept the ball out of the net.
Sliema were made to pay for their missed chances when Qormi went ahead for the first time in the match on the 62nd minute. A defensive mistake would give Abubakar Bello-Osagie a chance to place the ball in a empty net to give Qormi the lead.
Qormi almost increased their lead on the 75th minute when Vincenzo Pisani’s shot hit the woodwork.
Sliema went all out in the final minutes to try to score the equaliser but Qormi tightened up at the back to keep the ball out of the net.
Abubakar Bello-Osagie was voted BOV Player of the Match.
