Failla doping ban reduced by one month

The Anti-Doping Commission has reduced a four-month ban for footballer Clayton Failla to three months, on appeal.

The Hibs midfielder had returned an adverse analytical finding for ephedrine in a urine sample provided on 25 June 2012 following a Euro Cup match between Valletta and Hibernians. This substance is included on the World Anti-Doping Prohibited List 2012 under the Stimulants (Specified Stimulants) category and is consequently prohibited under the Malta Anti-Doping Rules.

The National Anti-Doping Appeals Panel said it had accepted the appeal filed by Clayton Failla and reformulated the decision pronounced by the National Anti-Doping Disciplinary Panel on the 27 September 2012,

His four-month suspension started on 20 July, which means it will now end on 21 October instead of 20 November.

Failla will be eligible to participate again in any capacity with any sport organisation registered with the National Council of Sport from the 21 October 2012.
