Malta defeat Liechtenstein 1-0 thanks to a goal from Jonathan Caruana

From the start of the match, Malta and Liechtenstein both went on the attach to try to take a early lead in the match.
The weather did not help much as it was a very cold evening in Vaduz.

Liechtenstein went close on the 25th minute when Nicolas Hasler hit the woodwork.

The goal that would give Malta victory was scored on the 39th minute. Of a corner, there was confusion in front of the Liechtenstein goal, and after a number of shots, Jonathan Caruana managed to slot the ball in past goalkeeper Peter Jehle.
Franze Burgmeier went close to scoring four minutes into the second half when he hit the crossbar with his header.

Malta would continue to protect their one goal lead throughout the second half to seal a victory away from home.
