Qormi shock Hibernians with late goal
Qormi shocked Hibernians yesterday afternoon when former Hibernians striker Leighton Grech scored late in the match to deny Hibernians from moving to the top of the table.
This defeat leaves Hibernians two points behind league leaders Birkirkara who sit at the top with 27 points.
Hibernians started the match as the better side and had a great chance to score on the 20th minute but Cohen and Ribeiro failed to convert from a pass by Marcelo Dias.
The match was very quiet with the final minute of the first half when Qormi's Abubakar Bello-Osagie powerful shot from just outside the area was saved by Mario Muscat. Seconds before the first half ended, Andrew Cohen almost put Hibernians ahead when his shot hit the woodwork.
The second half started in the same way with both teams playing a cautious match.
On the 70th minute, Qormi's Stephen Wellman hit the crossbar from a direct freekick.
On the 82nd minute, Qormi finally would score the goal that would give them the victory and deny Hibernians from taking top spot. Joseph Chetcuti served Leighton Grech who then rounded a defender and left no chance for goalkeeper Mario
Muscat with his shot from close range.
Edison Bilbao Zarate was voted BOV Pleayer of the Match.
