Hibernians defeat Balzan as Sliema and Birkirkara share the spoils
Hibernians defeated Balzan 2-0 to move within one point of league leaders Valletta.
Hibernians managed to take the lead on the 30th minute when off a Clayton Failla freekick, Stefan Giglio was unfortunate to deflect the ball past his own goalkeeper for an own goal.
The match was made even more difficult for Balzan as they were reduced to ten men when Matthew Mendy picked up a second yellow card.
Hibernians doubled the score on the 43rd minute when Jean Paul Farrugia beat goalkeeper Daniel Miguelez Martinez with his shot.
Andrew Cohen was voted BOV Player of the Match.
In the other match of the day, Sliema and Birkirkara shared the points in a goalless draw.
With this result, Birkirkara now fall five points behind league leaders Valletta and four behind Hibernians.
