Special Olympics Malta Football Tournament

The Special Olympics Malta Football Tournament finals were held at the Centenary Stadium, Ta’ Qali on the 13th April 2013

The event, which was opened by Hon. Buontempo Parliamentary Secretary for Research, Innovation, Youth and Sport, was held on the initiative of the Special Olympics Malta with the assistance of the Malta Football Association.

The organisation drew praise from the English visiting contingent.

Matches were played between a Special Olympics Malta team and Surrey Blues Disability (Chelsea UK).

The tournament qualifiers were played on Friday 12th April between 9.00 hrs and 13.00 hrs at St Benedict College, Kirkop. These qualifiers were not open for the public but the college students were able to watch the matches and support our boys.

The finals, this time open for the public, were staged at the Centenary Stadium between 9.00 hrs and 13.00 hrs, with the venue being availed of courtesy of the MFA free of charge, as were training facilities and referees.

At the end of the tournament medals were awarded to participants by Anna Calleja of the Special Olympics Malta and Maria Mifsud, MFA Deputy General Secretary, Youth and Development.

Entrance was free but donations were most welcome.
