Melita win eight-goal thriller

Melita came back from behind to defeat Hamrun Spartans 5-3 in a match between two teams that are already relegated to Division 1.

After 13 minutes of play, Melita's Julian Galea had his shot from close range saved by goalkeeper Andrea Cassar. Hamrun went close to scoring on the 14th minute Massimo Grima had his header hit the woodwork.

Hamrun took the lead on the 20th minute when Giacomo Favero beat goalkeeper Andrew Abela with his powerful shot from outside the area.

Giacomo Favero was on target again when he made it 2-0 for Hamrun on the 41st minute.

Melita managed to reduce the scoreline on the 56th minute when off a freekick by Luke Sammut, substitute Jean Pierre Attard headed the ball past goalkeeper Andrea Cassar.

On the 68th minute, Melita managed to score the equaliser when they were awarded a penalty shot after Julian Galea was brought down inside the area by Massimo Grima. From the penalty spot, Michael Valenzia made no mistake to beat goalkeeper Andrea Cassar.

On the 71st minute, Melita were awarded another penalty when Luke Micallef was brought down inside the area by goalkeeper Andrea Cassar. Anthony Curmi took his place in goal, but Manuel Ramon Sierra Comacho easily beat the latter his his shot to make the score 3-2 .

The third penalty of the match was now awarded to Hamrun after Andrew Abela fouled Emiliano Lattes. Massimo Grima easily scored from the penalty spot to make the score 3-3.

Melita regained the lead on the 86th minute when Julian Galea found the back of the net.

Melita made sure they secured victory on the 90th minute when Gelea beat goalkeeper Anthony Curmi to make the final score 5-3.

Julian Galea was voted BOV Player of the Match.
