Spain smash 10 past Tahiti

Fernando Torres scored four times and missed a penalty as Spain cantered to a 10-0 victory over Tahiti in the Confederations Cup.

There had been predictions that the World and European champions would reach double figures, but they only led 1-0 after half an hour before moving through the gears.

David Villa had a hat-trick, David Silva scored twice and Juan Mata also netted as Spain went top of Group B.

Diego Forlan celebrated his 100th cap for Uruguay by thumping in the winner as the South Americans closed in on the last four by beating rivals Nigeria 2-1 in Salvador.

Forlan struck at the start of the second half after Jon Obi Mikel's 37th-minute strike had cancelled out Uruguay's opener, which came in the 19th minute courtesy of the much-maligned Diego Lugano.

The result left the two sides level on three points from two games in Group B but, with a game against Tahiti to come, Uruguay are in prime position to qualify alongside Spain, who have six points and will take on Nigeria in their final pool match.
