Birkirkara to face NK Maribor in UEFA Champions League

BOV Premier League Champions Birkirkara were draw with NK Maribor of Slovenia in the second qualifying round of the UEFA Champions League.

The draws were made at the UEFA Headquarters in Nyon.

The first leg will be played on the 16 or 17 July in Malta while the second leg will be played on the 23 or 24 July at the Ljudski Vrt Stadium in Maribor, Slovenia.

Maribor had a very successful season winning the championship in Slovenia and as well the SLovenian Cup.

It will be the third time Maribor playes against a Maltese team. In their first competition they played against Hamrun Spartans in 1992. They eliminated Hamrun with a 5-2 aggregate.

In 2007, Maribor were paired against Birkirkara in the Intertoto Cup. The SLovenian side defeated Birkirkara with a 5-1 aggregate.

In the UEFA Europa League, Valletta were drawn with SP La Fiorita of San Marino while Hibernians were paired with FK Vojvodina of Serbia. Sliema Wanderers take on FC Khazar Lankaran of Azerbaijan.

The first leg will be played on 4 and 11 July. Valletta will play the first leg away from home while Hibernians and Sliema will plasy their first matches at home.
