Birkirkara win BOV Super Cup after victory over Hibernians
BOV Premier League Champions Birkirkara defeated Hibernians 3-2 to win the BOV Super Cup and register their first honour of the season.
This victory meant that Birkirkara won the Super Cup six times in the history of the club.
The match had a quiet start, but Birkirkara managed to take the lead on the 30th minute.
Off a cross by Shola Shodiya, Demba Toure beat goalkeeper Mario Muscat with his powerful shot to give Birkirkara the lead.
Birkirkara did not have to wait long before they doubled their lead as just four minutes later off a freekick by Paul Fenech, Frank Temile connected from close range to make the score 2-0.
On the 37th minute, Birkirkara managed to make the score 3-0. Off a corner from the left by Edward Herrera, Zach Muscat beat goalkeeper Mario Muscat with his header.
In the second half, it would not be all so easy for the BOV Premier League Champions. Just after four minutes, Hibernians were awarded a penalty after Alejandro Mendoza brought Andrew Cohen down inside the area. From the penalty spot, Clayton Failla easily beat Justin Haber with his shot.
On the 77th minute, Hibernians managed to make it 3-2. Just inside the area A low show by Andrew Cohen was enough to beat Harber.
After the game, Birkirkara captain was presented with the Super Cup by MFA President Norman Darmanin Demajo.
