Inter leave it late to send Bayern crashing out of the Champions League

Manchester Untited also advance to the next round after defeating Marseille.

Bayern Munich - 2
Inter - 3

AFTER falling behind in the first half, Inter overturned their first leg loss to earn a sensational 3-2 win against Bayern in Munich.
Inter overturned their firstleg loss at San Siro and a 3-1 aggregate deficit on the night as they earned a last-gasp 3-2 victory over Bayern Munich and booked their spot in the Champions League quarterfinals on away goals after the tie ended 3-3 overall.
It took less than four minutes for Inter to get their away goal, a typical finish by Samuel Eto’o after the Cameroonian was served by Goran Pandev.
In the 21st minute, Bayern levelled the score with a little help from Julio Cesar, who spilled Arjen Robben’s long ranged shot before Mario Gomez netted from a overhead kick. Ten minutes later, Dejan Stankovic deflected Robben’s through ball into the path of Thomas Mueller, who flicked the ball over the Inter goalkeeper Julio Cesar with the outside of his right foot to make it 2-1. Bayern had what looked like a comprehensive 3-1 aggregate advantage.
The match changed considerably in the second half, however, as Inter grew in confidence. Wesley Sneijder fired in a fantastic goal on 63 minutes to restore parity on the night, and the Nerazzurri looked the more dangerous side from then on.
Goran Pandev settled the tie on 88 minutes with a brilliant finish into the top corner from the edge of the penalty area.
The result sees Inter through to the quarter-finals again as Serie A’s flagship team. Bayern failed to avenge last season’s final defeat as they crash to Inter for the second consecutive year, and will be without silverware in 2011.

Manchester United - 2
Marseille - 1

In the other match a Chicharito double was enough to send Manchester United through to the Champions League quarter-finals, after they saw off Marseille 2-1 in an engaging battle at Old Trafford.
The hosts burst out of the blocks with Chicharito tapping in a Wayne Rooney cross in the first five minutes.
This start flattered to deceive though, with Marseille missing a hatful of guiltedged chances before Chicharito scored his second tap-in of the evening.
A Wes Brown own goal gave the hosts a nervy ending but Sir Alex Ferguson’s side eventually held on to secure a 2-1 aggregate victory following the stalemate at the Stade Velodrome a fortnight ago.
